Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. The file never leaves your device – there is no server that could see it. Once the page has loaded, the tool even works offline.
Which format should I pick?
MP3 plays everywhere and is the right choice for music and speech. WAV and FLAC are lossless but large – useful if you want to edit the sound further. M4A (AAC) is smaller than MP3 at the same quality; OGG (Vorbis) is the open equivalent. The bitrate only applies to the lossy formats.
Is the sound re-encoded?
Yes – the audio in a video is usually AAC or Opus, which does not fit into an MP3 or WAV as it is. Decoding and re-encoding once at 192 kbit/s or more is inaudible for practically everyone.
How fast is it?
Audio is quick: a three-minute song converts in a few seconds once the engine (about 32 MB, loaded once per visit) is ready. Files up to 100 MB are accepted.
Is there a size limit?
Files up to 300 MB are accepted, and a job is stopped after ten minutes. The whole file has to fit into the browser's memory, so clips of a few minutes work best. If processing stops, trim the clip first or lower the resolution.
