Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. The file never leaves your device – there is no server that could see it. Once the page has loaded, the tool even works offline.
Which information is shown?
The container (TTF, OTF, WOFF, WOFF2) and outline type (TrueType or CFF), every name record – family, style, full and PostScript name, version, designer, manufacturer, copyright, licence and URLs – the vertical metrics and units per em, weight and width class with the matching CSS values, glyph and character counts, GSUB and GPOS feature tags, variation axes, hinting tables, the Unicode blocks covered and the list of tables with their sizes.
How do I find out whether I may use the font?
Look at the licence and licenceURL entries – many fonts carry their licence text right in the file. The embeddingRestrictions value is the OS/2 fsType field: 0 means installable, 2 restricted (no embedding), 4 preview and print only, 8 editable embedding; bit 256 forbids subsetting. It is a declaration, not enforcement, and the licence text prevails.
Why is the glyph count higher than the number of characters?
A font usually holds more glyphs than it maps to characters: ligatures, small caps, alternates, joining forms of Arabic letters, components that composite glyphs are built from, and the .notdef box shown for missing characters. Only glyphs listed in the character map are reachable by typing.
