Frequently asked questions

Is my file uploaded?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. The file never leaves your device – there is no server that could see it. Once the page has loaded, the tool even works offline.

Does rotating by 90° lose quality?

The pixels are moved, not resampled, so nothing is blurred. A JPG is nevertheless re-encoded, which costs a little at low quality settings – leave the slider at 90 or above and the difference is invisible.

Why does my photo look rotated before I even start?

Phones store the orientation as a flag instead of rotating the pixels. We apply that flag first, so what you see in the preview is what gets rotated – no double rotation.

Does the file format stay the same?

Yes. A JPG stays a JPG, a PNG stays a PNG, WebP and AVIF likewise. JPG, WebP and AVIF are re-encoded with the quality you set; PNG stays lossless. To change the format, use one of the converters afterwards.

What happens to EXIF data such as camera model or GPS position?

By default we remove all metadata, including GPS coordinates. Switch on “Keep metadata (EXIF)” if you want it kept. The orientation stored in the file is applied to the pixels either way, so the image never appears rotated.
