Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. The file never leaves your device – there is no server that could see it. Once the page has loaded, the tool even works offline.
What is the difference between WebP and PNG?
WebP is Google's web format: about a third smaller than JPG at the same quality, with transparency, supported by all current browsers. PNG is lossless and supports transparency. Ideal for graphics, logos and screenshots, but large for photos.
Does the image lose quality?
No. PNG is lossless, so the image stays pixel-perfect. Quality already lost in the WebP compression does not come back, though.
What happens to EXIF data such as camera model or GPS position?
By default we remove all metadata, including GPS coordinates. If you want to keep it, switch on “Keep metadata (EXIF)”. The image orientation is applied correctly either way.
