Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. The file never leaves your device – there is no server that could see it. Once the page has loaded, the tool even works offline.
What is the difference between PNG and WebP?
PNG is lossless and supports transparency. Ideal for graphics, logos and screenshots, but large for photos. WebP is Google's web format: about a third smaller than JPG at the same quality, with transparency, supported by all current browsers.
Does the image lose quality?
WebP uses lossy compression. The quality slider sets the trade-off between file size and image quality – above about 80 the difference is hard to see with the naked eye. Your original stays untouched on your device.
What happens to EXIF data such as camera model or GPS position?
By default we remove all metadata, including GPS coordinates. If you want to keep it, switch on “Keep metadata (EXIF)”. The image orientation is applied correctly either way.
