Frequently asked questions

Is my file uploaded?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. The file never leaves your device – there is no server that could see it. Once the page has loaded, the tool even works offline.

What is removed?

Editor metadata from Inkscape, Illustrator or Figma, comments, hidden and empty elements, default attribute values and unused definitions. Coordinates are rounded to the chosen number of decimals and path data is written in its shortest form. The engine is svgo, the same optimiser used by most build tools.

Can the optimisation change how the file looks?

With the default settings almost never. The number of decimal places is the one setting that can: at 1 decimal, very fine curves may shift slightly; 3 is safe for practically everything. IDs are shortened unless “Keep IDs” is on – switch it on if CSS or JavaScript refers to them.

Can I get a readable file instead of a single line?

Yes, enable “Pretty print”. The file becomes a little bigger but is easier to read, edit and compare in version control.

Does it remove scripts?

Yes, always. Scripts, event handlers and external references are stripped before optimisation, regardless of the settings.
