Password protect PDF
Encrypts a PDF with AES-256 – without the password nobody opens it.
Processed on our server – the file is deleted right afterwards
Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded?
Yes. This is one of the few tools that need our server, because the program behind it cannot run in a browser. The file travels encrypted, is processed in an isolated container without network access, and is deleted immediately after your download – at the latest after an hour. It is never stored, read or passed on.
How strong is the encryption?
AES-256, the strongest that the PDF standard offers, applied by qpdf. Without the password the content cannot be read – not by us either. The password is used for the job and never written to disk.
Can I still print and copy from it?
Yes. We only set the password that is needed to open the document, without extra restrictions on printing or copying. Those restrictions are a polite request in the PDF standard anyway – any reader may ignore them.
Why do I have to wait?
Your job joins a queue and runs on a real machine. The page shows which step it is on – upload, queue, processing, download – and you can cancel at any time. Nothing runs in the background after you leave.
Is there a size limit?
Files up to 50 MB. Larger files are refused before anything is uploaded, so you do not waste time on a job that could not finish.
