Compare two text files
Shows the differences between two text files as a unified diff or side by side.
Runs in your browser – your file is never uploaded
Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. The file never leaves your device – there is no server that could see it. Once the page has loaded, the tool even works offline.
How do I use it?
Add exactly two text files: first the old version, then the new one. The comparison runs line by line. Choose “Unified diff” for a text you can save or paste into a ticket, or “Side by side” for an HTML page that highlights the changes in colour.
What is a unified diff?
The format git and most code tools use: lines starting with “-” were removed, lines with “+” were added, and “@@ -12,5 +12,6 @@” headers say where in each file a block of changes sits. The file can be applied with the “patch” command.
Can I compare Word or PDF files?
Not directly – the tool compares plain UTF-8 text. Export both documents as .txt (or Markdown) first, then compare those. Binary files produce an error instead of a meaningless result.
