Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. The file never leaves your device – there is no server that could see it. Once the page has loaded, the tool even works offline.
How are words counted?
A word is a run of letters or digits, including apostrophes and hyphens inside it, so “state-of-the-art” and “don't” count once each. The rule is Unicode-aware and works for accented and non-Latin scripts alike.
How is the reading time estimated?
Word count divided by the reading speed – 200 words per minute by default, which is a typical adult pace for ordinary prose. Adjust the speed for technical text (slower) or skimming (faster).
What counts as a sentence or a paragraph?
A sentence ends with a full stop, exclamation or question mark followed by a space or the end of the text. Paragraphs are blocks separated by an empty line. Both are estimates: abbreviations like “e.g.” can add a sentence.
