Add page numbers to a PDF
Prints page numbers in the header or footer of every page.
Runs in your browser – your file is never uploaded
Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. The file never leaves your device – there is no server that could see it. Once the page has loaded, the tool even works offline.
Can I start counting at a different number?
Yes – set “First number”. With a first number of 5 the pages read 5, 6, 7 … Use {last} instead of {total} in the format if the second value should be the last number (e.g. “5 / 12”) rather than the page count.
What if the PDF already has page numbers?
The new numbers are drawn on top of the existing page content; nothing is removed or edited. Pick a position where the page is empty, or the two will overlap.
Which characters can the text contain?
The text is set in Helvetica, one of the fonts every PDF viewer has built in – so nothing needs to be embedded. That font covers Latin letters including accents (é, ü, ç …), digits and common punctuation. Greek, Cyrillic, Asian scripts and emoji are not available; you get a clear message instead of a box.
Are bookmarks, links and form fields kept?
Yes. The file is edited in place, so bookmarks, links, form fields and attachments stay exactly as they were.
What about password-protected PDFs?
They are not supported yet. Open the file in a PDF viewer, enter the password, save a copy without protection and use that copy here.
